A travel nurse is a nurse who works to fill open positions around the world. In order to gain employment as a travel nurse you must first complete your nursing training. Once you have done so you can apply for positions in travel nursing.

A good background is essential for a job as a travel nurse. A good background means that you have completed all necessary schooling as well as passed nursing examinations. Nurses are required to study for between two and four years in order to gain employment.

During this time they learn nursing procedures as well as gain information about subjects essential to nurses such as inserting intravenous medication and working with patients to take a patient history. A nurse must have a secure and ample fund of knowledge in order to become a travel nurse because travel nurses are often thrown into unfamiliar surroundings.

Upon graduation a travel nurse should spend at least a year of working full time at a hospital or nursing home. Travel nurse agencies prefer candidates who have a good background and training in the field. A good background will prepare you for assignments once you are ready for them.

Seek out jobs during this time that will give you wide exposure to the  field of nursing. Ideally look to work with many different classes of patients from all walks of life.

Once you have completed your training you can apply to work at at travel nursing agency. The agency will work with you to verify your credentials as well as make sure that you have the necessary state certifications to work legally in the state in question.

After that you can sign up for assignments in the state you prefer. Travel nurses can earn upwards of forty dollars or more per hour. A job as travel nurse can be an excellent way to see the country and earn a nice wage at the same time. While not everyone can go the full route of preparing to be a nurse of LPN, nursing assistant training is less demanding but still provides plenty of opportunity for one on one patient care.
