Cures for Bad Breath

Bad breath is caused by bacteria in the mouth. This bacteria lurks in the crevasses in teeth, in between teeth, just below the gum line, on the surface of teeth, and on the tongue. Improper or insufficient brushing can allow this bacteria to linger in the mouth, making the problem worse. Oral hygiene is one important tool to use to eradicate bad breath. Sometimes the foul odors come from offensive foods, like garlic or onions, and not from a bacteria problem.

There are obvious quick fixes to bad breath, like gum, breath mints, and mouthwash – but these are all temporary and don’t really cure anything. For people who like mouthwash, perhaps try a more natural rinse. Before brushing, swish some hydrogen peroxide around in your mouth, spit it all out, and then brush thoroughly. Another good gargle is baking soda mixed with warm water. For something a bit more palatable, squeeze a half a lemon into a glass of water and gargle with that. Drinking a hot cup of unsweetened tea or tea made from fenugreek seeds is also a good home remedy. Pineapple juice is also known to eradicate bad breath. Read the rest of this entry »
