Sophisticated Nautical Decorating Ideas

>

Nautical home decor can seem a little bit cheap. In fact it can even be reminiscent of items in the dollar store. Granted, the dollar store does have some great stuff in it. You usually have to repurpose it in some way so that it looks a little bit different the way you would with office blinds. This is why shopping for basic items that are more subtle is going to make a bigger impact. Here are some nautical decorating ideas.

Consider your candleholders carefully because this can be an area where you go overboard because they are so inexpensive. You could just find ones made out of worn wood. This could really match a lot of the other furniture pieces in your room. The focus really isn’t on intricate or ornate details because these can be quite cheesy. Instead you want to decide on what kind color palette you want and what your price point is because this is going to determine how high-end the pieces that you buy are going to be.

You can also just make really subtle odes to this kind of style. For instance you could just put up a telescope in the corner of the room. The really great thing about this is that right now a lot of telescope lamps are really popular. These just features kind of that tripod style base. The silhouette shines when there’s just a plain white shade on it. This is really very subtle and graceful and you can move it into more traditional rooms in the future.

Your artwork is another area where people often go overboard. Instead, look for more impressionistic style paintings. Often times these used a lot of very abstract ideas of water with beautiful white and blues which can be very calming and soothing. This is especially important if you’re going with an actual painting instead of a print. You want it to be lasting because you are making a huge investment so picking a motif that is going to work with all different kinds of design styles is probably going to be to your advantage. You can always use smaller accessories to get your theme across.
