Soft Plastic or Rigid Plastic Badge Holder: Which Should You Get?

>

The identification badge holder has become a needed business accessory in recent times because of the growth of id badges in the workplace.  There are a number of reasons for the use of badge holders, but protection against wear and tear and a professional looking display mechanism are two of these reasons.  Picking out a badge holder for yourself seems like a simple process, but there are more things to consider when making a purchase than first meet the eye.

The first thing you’ll want to consider when picking a badge holder is the amount of protection needed for your id badge.  Soft plastic badge holders are the cheapest option available, but they don’t resist damage very well.  Not only can they bend way too easily, they’re also prone to tearing and ripping.  You should only choose the soft plastic option if protecting your id badge is down on your list of priorities.  If it is higher on your list, a rigid plastic badge holder might be the best choice.  These holders will hold up to much more abuse while still being relatively cheap.

Another thing to keep in mind when making your purchase is whether or not you plan to add other accessories to the holder.  For some people, using a lanyard with a badge holder is their preferred means of displaying their badge.  You may also consider a retractable holder if your id badge doubles as a security card.  If you’ll be using other accessories with the holder, you’ll want to make sure that the holder you purchase is correctly set up for use with these accessories.  It’s important to buy a badge holder with punched slots that allow for clips to be attached.  Badge clips are needed to attach a holder to another accessory, such as a custom printed lanyard.

Finally, you should always consider the fashion side of wearing a badge holder.  For some, this is a non-issue because they’re not worried about how a holder may look with their wardrobe.  For others, this will be a concern that should play a role in the selection of a holder.

Most plastic holders will not be attractive to look at and other options should be considered.  Leather and metal holders are the better looking options that are available.  Each of these materials protects well against damage.  They will come at a higher cost, however.

Upon making these considerations, you’ll be able to find a badge holder that fits your exact needs and specifications.  Not all badge holders are made equal, and considering the advantages and disadvantages of each should lead to a much better decision when making your purchase.
