New Liposuction Techniques: Were They Created Equal?

Steering through scores of medical procedures has become more taxing because of the dawning of different medical breakthroughs. One of the most universal aesthetic medical procedures that have gone through extensive evolution is liposuction to remove cellulite and body fat. From traditional liposuction methods, various liposuction techniques have emerged – all with similar claims of bringing your body contours a step closer to perfection.

Smart Lipo is a type of laser liposuction procedure where a tiny probe gets inserted in a small incision to liquefy fat deposits. Fat cells are melted through laser fibers that are aimed directly at your body’s fat cells without affecting adjacent tissues. These fats are then drained away, and the incision stitched shut. Smart Lipo is a liposuction procedure that won’t leave you blood-splattered and would have you back on your daily routine in no time.

PAL or Power Assisted Liposuction is another liposuction technique where surgeons use a vibrating cannula to break up fatty cells rapidly. Compared to the manual “shaking” process, PAL has been said to give more effective results especially in areas with more fibrous cells like the male breasts and the back. .

A European study showed that power assisted liposuction is the most ideal treatment in terms of leaving fascial bands intact. Fascial bands greatly help in skin contraction and the destruction of these determiners purportedly contribute in sagging and the appearance of stretch marks. The similarity of PAL to Smart Lipo is that both use small incisions, have less bleeding, and both procedures claim to be less invasive and destructive to surrounding tissues

Slim Lipo is most likely Smart Lipo’s toughest competition. SLIM stands for Specific Laser Induced Melting and is said to be the next generation in the advent of laser aided liposuction treatments.  The concept and the procedure of both laser liposuction procedures are similar but not exactly the same. Slim Lipo uses lesser laser wavelengths, about 925 to 975 nanometers. According to the innovators of Slim Lipo, this is the correct, most ideal wavelength that will specifically melt fat. The procedure pledges to melt fat using lower heat energy levels, and promises to show a firmer and tighter skin compared to Smart Lipo. Though there have been heated debates on the supposed claims of Smart and Slim Lipo benefits, patients of both laser-aided treatments will always have the same stance – to go through a procedure that will make them slimmer in the fastest, safest way available.

Cool Lipo is also a laser-based liposuction technique. The main distinction of this procedure among all laser assisted liposuction treatments is that its unique, dual mode laser wavelength can liquefy fats and conduct immediate tightening after the procedure. As it targets fat deposits under the skin, its unique laser wavelength shrinks the tissues, which then stimulates the production of new collagen. Consequently, the skin gets firmer and appears to be more tightened after the procedure.

With all these laser assisted liposuction procedures getting a lot of media attention, most people are often left in a quandary on what procedure will work best for them individually. The claims on the effect, safety, and expediency of various procedures are almost too similar that deciphering what the best liposuction method is best can be quite a challenge.  On top of that there is the liposuction alternative lipodissolve to consider as well. And there is the factor of the costs of cosmetic surgery that may be a determining consideration.

In any case, you should always consider that the types and the benefits of different laser liposuction techniques are offset by one major factor. At the end of the day, regardless of what procedure you choose to have, the competence, experience, and expertise of your surgeon will make all the difference.
