TV cabinets were once considered the ideal place for house your television, VCR, DVD player and other entertainment equipment. It was the centerpiece of the living room or any room where people entertained their company. Even a special corner TV cabinet was designed and built to allow individuals to fit the television in difficult rooms.

There was more than enough room for the surround sound equipment, video games or digital video converter units you owned. But then, as televisions began to enlarge their screens but the size of the television itself became smaller and smaller, the need for a big, bulky TV cabinet began to dwindle.

While there are some people who still own and use them, TV cabinets are no longer in demand the way they use to be. With televisions that hang from the ceiling, or can be mounted to the wall of her bedroom, and some people even switching to projection style televisions systems, the need for a cabinet to hold all your entertainment equipment has become smaller.

Despite the advances made with televisions, and the fact that traditional cabinets are no longer needed, the television cabinet lives on, only now in a much smaller version. Now, for those who have their television mounted to the wall or even use a projection style, there is still a need to house their various entertainment equipment. For that reason, much smaller cabinets are used to hold DVR boxes, case wiring, hold satellite receivers and keep video game systems accessible, but out of sight.

So, while the bigger, bulkier model of television cabinets may now be considered obsolete by some, there are many people who still use a much smaller, much more slender version of the original concept of the television cabinet to store their things.
