Advantages and Disadvantages of Espresso Pods

>

Easy Serving Espresso Pods (ESE), referred to as espresso pods are an interesting invention. Espresso coffee beans have been ground already so there is a lot less work to do. They were invented by an Italian for the sole purpose of an alternative to an espresso machine and used in the office because it was quick and easy for office workers to operate.

Workers didn’t have to worry about cleaning the machine out every time and could simply throw the bag away and return to their desk with a freshly brewed cup of coffee. Later this the idea was developed and marketed for home use and also used in restaurants for convenience purposes.

An espresso recipe has been devised and compacted into this espresso pod which is more or less the shape of a tea bag and made of filter paper, allowing the coffee to filter through. The user would simply place the pod on top and the water would saturate the bag.

Advantages of the Espresso Pod

  • They are easy to use. Sometimes more advanced machines take a while to get used to and all you want is a simple machine to make yourself a cup of coffee or espresso before going to work.
  • It tastes just as great as any other machine and the strength is the same every time. You can get espresso pods that are single shots in quantity and contain 7 g of coffee of double shots which contain 14 g of coffee.
  • There is less waste of coffee compared to your conventional espresso machine. You will see the amount of coffee that is left that you will be throwing away and that is not a lot.

Disadvantages of Espresso Pods

  • Although the paper of the pods are really thin there is still a waste of paper with every pod you will be using. Saying this the paper could always be recycled.
  • Espresso pods are more expensive than your average serving of espresso used from an espresso machine. This would be due to the manufacturing process of the pods.
  • There are a limited selection of suppliers so some countries may have a problem, but there is always a possibility of ordering from an online espresso shop.
