A User’s Account of the Karaoke Gratis Website
>
If you’re interested in karaoke or have ever looked into downloading free karaoke tracks for your karaoke machine off the internet you may have heard of the Karaoke Gratis website. This website promises premium quality MIDI files which can be played on your computer to sing along to. Following a significant amount of criticism from a variety of sources I attempted to find out what all the fuss was about and register for myself. The following paragraphs are an account of my findings as a KG member.
The first time you visit this website you will be a little confused about what KG are meant to provide. Despite the promise of offering free downloads of over 20, 000 tunes on its homepage, this paragraphs just gets drowned out by the completely ridiculous amount of ads in the body of the page. As a user you get the impression that these operators aren’t interested in presenting a great looking product at all.
Once you sign up for the free membership (which is a pain in itself) you are given access to all the karaoke instrumental tracks the site offers. The only problem is as soon as you click on one of the download links it appears to take you to several different pages before you actually are allowed to
download the file, not exactly the most user friendly system in the world.
Once I downloaded the file I was absolutely stunned at the appalling quality of the MIDI file. In my opinion it sounded like the tune had been recorded on a mobile phone and barely resembled the original song. It was also really badly presented too; you literally had the music playing in the background whilst the lyrics would appear on a dull background. It was like they were trying to make it look as terrible as they possibly could.
If you interested in find karaoke tracks for free I would seriously recommend using YouTube videos over any of the KG files. Even the worst quality YouTube files still sound a lot better than the MIDI’s available on this site and you don’t even need to go through the hassle of registering.
