A Look at Bed Comforters and Duvets
>
Before you decide if you would like to purchase a comforter or duvet, you must first be able to distinguish the difference between comforters and duvets. Prices also vary on the two items, so that must also be taken into consideration before investing in either.
Simply put, a comforter is a type of blanket. It is usually placed on top the mattress, sheets, and sleeping pillows. Decorative pillows are sometimes placed on top. Comforters also tend to be the largest and thickest item on the bed, excluding the mattress of course. Sheets are normally paper-thin, only as thick as the fabric they are made of.

Comforters are more than that they are normally stuffed with layers of material such as wool, polyester, silk, or down feathers. The comforter is stitched evenly so that the filling is evenly distributed about the blanket. Washing a comforter should not be done in a top-loader, and directions on the tag of the comforter should always be followed.
Like comforters, duvets are also filled with materials, but most likely they are filled with down feathers, though silk, wool, and cotton are sometimes used. In French, duvet means down. Down feathers are popular because of their usefulness as insulators. While other blankets and sheets accompany comforters, duvets remove the complexity of a bed spread because they are used by themselves.

The disadvantage of this is the heat in the summer. Down comforters are hot enough, but when the entire bed is made of an insulator it can be uncomfortable for some owners. Just like a comforter, you should always follow the washing machine instructions on the tag. Typically, whether it is a comforter or a duvet, you must allow adequate drying or it will not get that original fluff. Down feathers need more drying than other materials like wool or cotton.
As expected, both duvets and comforters come in a variety sizes including single, twin, double, queen, and king. Based on the filling used, the thread count, and the size of the comforter or duvet, the price is drastically different. With those factors taken into consideration, a duvet’s price ranges from 30 to upwards of 1,400. A comforter’s price ranges from 30 to upwards of 1200.
No matter the preference, both comforters and duvets tend to end up costing roughly the same amount. When deciding whether to buy either a comforter or a duvet, it comes down to comfort level, climate, and ease.
